SANTA ROSA, CA

We didn't get to play last night but we went to the house show anyways. Apparently there were enough bands on the bill already and they wanted the show to end at a certain time. So no magick! Its all cool. We had so much fun though. The room was small where the bands played and it was hot as fuck but the music made up for it. We got there just in time to see The Girl With Violent Arms (STA ROSA) do an improv set with a drummer (at least the last part of it!). Universal Studios Florida (SEATTLE), Alaskas (SEATTLE) and Exasperation Missionary (STA ROSA) played afterwards. They were all such great acts and they all played such intense sets despite of the small room (imagine the funkysmell???)).

Rhea managed to interview some of the bands for the distro and this documentation we are doing about house shows and all-ages venues. We also got to meet Will, who volunteers at the local zine library and gave him some of our stuff. Then we pretty much just chilled and went back to Mario's (The Girl With Violent Arms) pad where we stayed overnight. And now its morning and today we are heading to Sacramento to see if we can talk to the Governor!

Fucking allergies!

BERKELEY, CA

So we played last night on Shamans Den which is Frank Moore's show at www.luver.com
We played and recorded the set with Frank, who was playing the piano. Afterwards, Frank and his wife Linda did an interview of us and we talked about lots of stuff. I think you might be able to hear it archived at their website. They also gave us zines and CD that they wanna have available at the OPEN MIND DEAD Distro. Afterwards, we then met up with our roomie, Andrew and his BF, Joey to go and check out the great gay parts of San Francisco. Its so gay, rainbow flags are flying everywhere!

AUG 7 SHOW RESCHEDULED!!!!

ALAS! The magick has been intercepted by powers beyond our control.....the tour kickoff that was scheduled for tomorrow, Friday August 7th has been CANCELLED. It seems that the owner of our Malo Funhouse will be in town for the weekend and is staying in the studio on the same property. This means that magick, bands, friends and fun will just have to wait until we get back. Don't worry - we WILL celebrate and have the show soon. Look for an update from us about the exact date of the rescheduled show, but we are aiming for the first weekend in September.

In the meantime, check out the amazing bands we were ridiculously excited to play with:
Tan Dollar, The Guppies and Michael Nhat.

And here's an image to sum up how we feel about all this:

We hope to see some of you at our shows as we head north for the next two weeks!!!

MALO FUNHOUSE TOUR KICK OFF SHOW

So we will be leaving for our little tour up the Northwest on Saturday. Still got some open dates but we are crossing our fingers and just going for it. IF IF IF there is any way you can help us with AUGUST 10(NORCAL, SACRAMENTO), 11(EUGENE, OREGON) 12 and 13 (PORTLAND) please let us know. We wo uld really appreciate it. Anyways, we're gonna have a kick off show at The Malo Funhouse where we live with Michael Nhat, Tan Dollar and Guppies, who just finished their new record. But just to make it clear, its not a party like usual, but a SHOW. Meaning it starts at 9PM sharp and we go on FIRST. We are also asking a 2 dollar donation to help us out on our tour. Its not much and its pretty much worth the music and fun you'll be having. And then after that, we'll be heading onwards to Berkeley on Saturday morning for Frank Moore's cable access show at 8PM at night.
We are getting stuff ready mostly for the Zine Fest too but we are also planning to stop by some college radio/web radio stations to drop by copies of a compilation we are making to promote the distro.

And heres a footage of us from last weekend taken by the badass, Mikey

NEW "HEXXES" Cassete Tape and SPD-FEST at BETALEVEL

Last Saturday's show at Betalevel was so much fun. Despite a "mysterious" technical problem (Rhea's Space Echo Pedal for some weird reason was not working!), we managed to get the our set going. We have been so stoked about doing the show for a while especially since we get to play with howardAMB and Bobb Bruno, two amazing bands that also use the Roland SPD-S drumpad which was the common denominator of the all the bands in the show. It was also the first time that magick orchids both played the Roland SPD-S pads which turned out to be so rad especiallyw ith the samples Rhea had on her pad. howardAMb played a really amazing set and their songs were so captivating especially with all the different sounds bouncing all throughout the space. howardAMB just keeps getting more amazing everytime we see them, it was quite a feat having to play between them and Bobb Bruno, who performed with Light Array Orchestra doing really psychedelic visuals. Bobb was pretty badass as usual in his bunny suit. He shows you what the possibilities of playing the SPD-S are. He also has some pretty great samples, one even sounds like it was Rhea singing. Mmmmm.... Though the place was quite a challenge to find especially with all the other events going on in Chinatown, we were glad to see familiar faces. Betalevel is a really rad place that is located in an underground basement right in an alley behind Full House Restaurant on Hill Street in Chinatown. They have Karaoke Nights and Movie Nights and other interesting nights that will trip the hell out of you. Check em out!

Also, we just finished making the cassette tapes for our upcoming Northwest Tour. Its
called HEXXES and its pretty much a mixture of the different sets we have been doing and some other songs that we have been working on for the past few weeks. Here is the tracklist:

SIDE A:
mind over matters
bright evil goodness

far away look
vegan vampyrs

fak dat nu aidj shet!

SIDE B:
ghost of a dead medium
forbidden games

what grows in yr garden
seasick version dub
passionista (brenmar remix)
abort-retry-fail

We only have it available in 50 limited copies for five dollars at our shows, here in our blog, at our myspace page, and at the Open-Minded distro soon. It also comes with a free sticker.

Also, we are playing tonight at the Tribal Cafe for a Lots O Crap show...

EVERYONE HATES A TOURIST.

We'll be leaving for the Northwest in two weeks and we've been busy getting our shit together. Already done with the recordings we did for our cassette tape release which we'll have available soon. Its gonna be called "HEXXES" and should be up on the Open-Minded distro soon or at or shows. And we'll be finishing the recordings with Piry tomorrow, its gonna be our last session, so hopefully we get that together to make copies for our tour. We are still trying to finalize some dates especially around the PDX area and we are thankful to many peeps and friends who've been very helpful.

Anyways, we are playing tonite at this new venue that our friends Josh and Isaac are starting. Its called Pantheon. Its gonna be in a spot called Tony's. Its actually near where we used to live on 7th and Santa Fe. We'll be playing with Cobalt Cranes and Voice On Tape and Sean Pineda. We play at 10:30 PM.

Also here is something for you..since you managed to click on this blog and read.

GROWING IN SPIRIT

He who hopes to grow in spirit
will have to free himself from obedience and respect.
He'll hold to some laws
but mostly he'll violate
both law and custom, and go beyond
the established, inadequate norm.
Sexual pleasure will have much to teach him.
He won't be afraid of the destructive act:
half the house will have to come down.
This way he'll grow virtuously into wisdom.

THURSDAY NIGHT

Friday Night @ Silver Factory Studios

We are playing a somewhat last minute kind of show this Friday at Downtown LA. Though, we are currently finishing recordings this week -its pretty obvious that we couldn't say no to such an amazing line-up of bands. We will be playing a new set and hopefully some new songs called "Pedro On A Bike" and "Bull Of Heaven".

Also if you have the time to read this, I'm sure you'll have the time to vote for the fabric design we have up at Spoonflower Its called "BLUE MONDAY", and if you think it looks familiar, its because its the design we use as a background for our myspace shmyface. Its pretty quick. Just click and then thats it. You can vote by clicking here. Thanx.

Cheech And Chong Doing Tron

Here's something that our talented friends, Lis Bomb and Casey worked hard on. Its a Cinemashup short of Cheech and Chong doing Tron. Its so funny especially the first part where they talk about the whole economy. You gotta watch this:

Magick Orchids shirt

Here is a design that we are going to make into a shirt for our tour. We will only be printing it in one color because multiple colors take longer time to print especially since we are just doing it ourselves. But down below is the same design in flashing bright colors, maybe we can make colored ones later on. We will sell it for a fair price at shows just to help pay for our gas and food.

We are currently finishing recordings and mastering some of the ones we have done into tape. We will also resume the ones we are doing with Piry soon. We have also been uploading some of those new songs on myspace and maybe a few more that aren't done yet. We want our myspace to be as current as possible to what we are doing now. We have been busy getting ready for our tour and the SF Zine Fest and are still trying to contact people about booking shows for some dates that are still open. Rhea will also be doing a Zine Workshop at the Renegade Craft Fair that is being held on the 13th floor(?) of the California Market Center this weekend. We will have zines and stuff from our little distro.
